Our Vision

All birthing women are educated

about their choices and rights

and they report respect and dignity

from their care providers.

Our Mission

Through projects that educate and advocate

the Birth Action Coalition will work to create

supportive birth environments in our community.

Our Core Belief

The Birth Action Coalition believes the birth journey

is an essential expression of human dignity

that requires informed and empowered partnerships between

women, families and healthcare providers.

History of BAC

In early 2008 a group of concerned community members were asked to come together by Kolmi Majumdar, a local parent and doula. The first meeting was focused on access to VBAC options for women in Santa Barbara and Ventura County. Over 30 people showed up at the Carpinteria Library, and it quickly became clear that there were many issues in our area which needed to be addressed around access to birthing options, and the rights of childbearing families in our community.

A few months later, a Vision Group met at Sunrise Birthing Center in Ventura to create a mission statement and form the leadership of BAC. In the months that followed the direction of BAC became focused on becoming an organized body, and applying for non profit status.

In early 2010 we have over 200 members as an organization. Our Board of Directors is currently involved in strategic planning for the sustainability of our organization to continue to grow in the future, and to be a resource for birthing families in our area.
